Princeton Public Library Princeton, NJ

EDITOR'S DESIGN CHOICE

Princeton Public Library entrance and adjacent public plaza. After considering a move to a shopping center on the outskirts of town, the library instead expanded downtown. Vehicular parking is available in an adjacent parking garage that is hidden by new mixed-use buildings.

The new Princeton Public Library is located in the heart of downtown Princeton, New Jersey about an hour southwest of New York City. Several works of art were commissioned for the library, many referencing local landmarks and history. The library, which features a cafe called Open Book, is adjacent to a new 500-car public parking structure, downtown plaza, and apartments over shops. With its new building in the center of downtown, the Princeton Public Library has successfully distinguished itself from the nearby university library, and is one of the busiest public libraries in the state.
