Columbia Pike is the “main street” of southern Arlington County, in suburban Washington, D.C. The corridor had been declining, but in 2003, the County approved the Columbia Pike Form-Based Code, becoming one of the first places in the nation to use a form-based code to help revitalize an established older area. The photos illustrate one of the new projects completed under the code—Siena Park, which includes apartments, office, and retail space—as well as the dilapidated grocery store and parking lot that it replaced.
