Selecting Winners

The Build a Better Burb competition resulted in an exciting array of possibilities for Long Island’s downtowns: 212 submissions from more than 560 entrants in over 30 countries. Designs ran the gamut from down-to-earth to futuristic, but all offered food for thought about the future of Long Island and suburbia.

The jury narrowed down the entries to 23 finalists and then to 6 winners, including one student entry. A “people’s choice” winner was selected based on online voting. Advertisements for public voting appeared on Long Island buses and in libraries across the region.
